Staving Off Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's is when the b-amyloid peptides clump together to form the "brain tangles" that are toxic to the nerve cells. There have been reports and tests done that have proven if you can keep the peptides low, there is a chance that it will help catch any problems before they happen.

Many laboratory tests have been done with mice in two groups. One group had nothing to do but eat and sleep and the other group had an environment that had a wheel and climbing tubes and things to keep them busy and thinking. The tests showed that the mice that had the stimulation had less peptide clumping than the mice that had nothing to do. When the tests were done on people who were 80 or over it showed that by them keeping their mind active they were 2.6 times less likely to get dementia or Alzheimer's.

The concept of keeping your brain stimulated really is not as complicated as people may think. Keeping your mind active can be done many ways. You can read, play chess, do crossword puzzles or anything else that keeps your mind thinking. If you really do not like to play thinking games like chess, then maybe you could try playing cards or any type of board games that interest you. Just by staying social can also help reduce the risk of early onset for either dementia or Alzheimer’s. Communicating with people and not being hidden away will help stimulate your brain with basic conversation.
